Clothing

The importance of wearing the correct clothing for comfortable cycling cannot be overstated.

SHORTS - one of the most sensitive areas to cover! We stock shorts from Endura, Specialized, Trek, and Altura.
Skin tight or baggy, they are all padded for comfort and would complement any cyclist's wardrobe. Bibshorts can also be recommended reducing pressure/sweaty areas around the waist.

SHOES - a firm pedalling platform improves efficiency and comfort. They are, of course, essential for the use of clipless pedals. Our range this year includes Shimano, Nike and Specialized. Overshoes will complement any footwear in winter conditions.

GLOVES - the final contact point - hands can be protected from irritation, chafing and rapid unintentional dismount by mitts: padded to varying degrees, reinforced at high abrasion areas, breathable and wicking to keep your hands comfortable.

JERSEYSJACKETS - Just as cycling tights cover shorts to warm the legs, and waterproof over trousers cover tights to give protection from rain and road spray, the secret of comfort in all weathers when cycling is layering. Depending upon the weather and level of activity, your torso should be covered with:

  • A wicking undergarment next to the skin, to transport perspiration away from the body together with excess heat
  • A long- or short- sleeved jersey, again made from technical transport fabrics, zipped at the neck to allow ventilation
  • In cold weather a fleece may also be worn as an insulating layer to trap warm air
  • An outer shell for inclement weather - materials such as Gore-tex, Pertex, Activent , or Raindriver are suitable as a breathable, windproof layer; for extreme weathers or long exposure, a waterproof quality will also be essential, though often the breathability is compromised, particularly in cheaper garments

Any combination of the above can be worn to suit the conditions.

Of course always think safety, wear bright colours, reflectives and a helmet.

We will be pleased to show you our excellent range of clothing - come and try some on.
